Storing seed which you got from other vegetables is a strategy for organic home gardening. Save and keep your plant seeds for growing at a later time for when you decide to plant.While there is no guarantee that your seeds will grow from storing them, you can take the additional steps to safeguard them that can allow them to grow like they might of in their own environment
Before you begin storing your seed products, you need to clean and dry them in order to safeguard the seeds from any kind of molds, mildewing or humidity. If your obtaining your seeds from a natural vegetable or fruit, you will need to get rid of the extra matter, such as the cob, seed covering or gel coating from tomato seeds. It is possible to save most seeds without any extra needed work, just wipe them dry and separate them from the husk or core. If you wish to plant and store your own seeds, save something that you like to enjoy growing and eating. Growing your own food is an enjoyable experience. Seed storage is one the many issues that you face when doing organic home gardening because you should have usable seeds for next year – store the seed you do not use. When setting up your storage area you want to take into consideration the temperature and humidity because you want to store them in a space which has a continual low temperature and lower levels of moisture. Any high levels of temperature fluctuations will reduce the amount of time your seed will be good for. You may also use your freezer or fridge because you may not need a lot of space. If you decide to put them in the refrigerator or freezer, the be sure you place them towards the back put away from the fan. You need a consistent temperature and when the fan kicks on it will disburse colder air, just like whenever you open up the door, hotter air may rush in. Preferably once you place them in these appliances, your almost causing hibernation in the seeds. If you need to store them for long-term, use a freezer, shorter durations I’d utilize a refrigerator. Do not forget any moisture can damage them and reduce their life cycle or cause them to never germinate.
When you store them, arrange them into small packets and place the small packages inside a bigger container. Which insulates them and covers them from any fluctuations in temps or any freezing that may damage the seed. By saving them in smaller packets, it enables you to use what you want the next time you need them. You can use plastic baggies or envelopes – be sure to mark the date and type of seeds they are if you discarded the originally packing.
When it is time to plant, it may be best to take the seed you need to use and put them into a different container, after that into a place that is slightly warmer then the place they were originally stored a few days. This is also a good time to prepare your seed plant containers. If you had them in the deep freeze, put them into the fridge – if they were in the refrigerator, place them in a cool place like a cellar or cooler room in the house. This is the most difficult part because you still want to avoid the humidity issue. Not every place is exact and its hard to judge temperatures and how the seeds will react. You just want to have them stabilized and provide them a couple of days to unfreeze before you plant. Many seeds may do better after freezing or refrigerating, because it mimics the normal winter weather.
I have one of those bench type hose reels and the instructions suck. There is a short length of hose that I think gets attached to my faucet and I believe the other end of it (that’s inside the bench) is where the garden hose is attached. I hate to sound stupid; but the insert with the "instructions" doesn’t explain squat.

Moved…left it behind. It attaches to one of them "hose on a reel". It is the part (lead hose) from the reel to the spout. Where do I get one. Canadian Tire does not have one?
In my opinion the secret to a lovely, lush lawn is in the soil. You need to ensure that your lawns pH balance is right . For best results your lawn’s pH needs to be between 6.5 and 7. This is slightly acidic. If your lawn is too acidic, it needs a slight coating of lime and if it needs more acidity you can get some sulphur to aid you with this. All of these are natural and so you are not damaging the environment. To test your lawn to see what pH balance it is you can either buy a pH tester from your local gardening centre or you can have it done professionally.
Before you add fertilizer to your lawn, aerate it firsts . Using an ordinary garden fork and ensuring that the holes are around ten centimetres deep will help prevent compacting and also with the drainage, helping to maintain your lawn’s pH level. Make sure that your grass is suitable for the area you live in. Locally adapted grass will be much more able to withstand the type of climate you live in. Using different types of grass, regardless of how much greener they are or thicker, won’t help either your lawn or the environment .
Mowing is best done frequently with the best lawnmower you can justify. Stick to about once a week during Summer months . For natural lawn care however, don’t mow too short. If you do mow too close to the ground, the soil can become dried out and the roots exposed, damaging all the hard work you have put into your lawn. Most grass is happiest and healthiest when between 2.5 and 3.5 inches tall. Now if you are used to cutting shorter and this is the first time that you are trying to look after your lawn naturally, it may be a shock to have it quite so long, but remember, you are doing your lawn and your environment a favour. Keep your blades sharp and always clean them after mowing. Also watch out for rocks and other debris on your lawn, these damage your lawn – last year I had to buy some replacement Bosch Rotak blade for my mower due to an encounter with a rock !
It’s best to water occasionally, but deeply. By drenching your lawn in this manner, you will help to develop stronger roots, making the grass much tougher and able to withstand droughts. When wondering if it is time to re water, look at the grass. If it is duller and footprints stay compressed for a short while, then you can water once more. You should also aim to give your grass around one inch of water each time you are re-hydrating the grass.
As with most lawn care jobs, the best time to water is first thing in the morning or last thing at night. This helps prevent evaporation. As long as you follow these tips, you will have no need to add pesticides to your lawn that can kill many beautiful insects that actually help your garden to thrive, and to top it off your lawn will be lush, green and the envy of your neighbours.
I have two Suncast brand hose reels. One is a winding one that is attached to the house and the other is a freestanding one with a 5 foot leader hose. Both leak. Is there anything I can do to seal the connections? Has anybody had the same problem?
I got a self standing hose reel at a garage sale. I want to hook up my hose to it, but I have no instructions. It has a connection where I see I can hook up the hose, but I don’t see a place to hook it up to the tap.
What am I overlooking?

I’m looking for a simple garden hose, and I’m considering one of those flat hoses. However, I’ve heard some bad stuff about them blowing apart, and that you have to run them to their full length to use them. I’ve heard bad things about coiled hoses, too.
I’ve also bought medium duty hoses (I think nylon), that kink even on the first use. I wonder if it’s worth the money to buy a good rubber hose. And, if so, which one to buy?
Thanks, I know about the kink-free hoses. My point is that the ones the say "won’t kink" , do anyway (and right out of the box so it’s not about how I store them). I keep spending in the – range for a 75 foot hose, and I just want to know if going up to the – range is gonna make a difference. If so, what specific hose should I buy?
